In medicine, circulatory failure marked by a sudden fall of blood pressure and resulting in pallor, sweating, fast (but weak) pulse, and sometimes complete collapse. Causes include disease, injury, and psychological trauma.
In shock, the blood pressure falls below that necessary to supply the tissues of the body, especially the brain. Treatment depends on the cause. Rest

Stoß

Značenje:

Veit, dt. Bildhauer, Maler und Kupferstecher, Horb am Neckar (?) um 1440/1450, +Nürnberg 1533, Hauptmeister der dt. Spätgotik, folgte 1477 einem Ruf nach Krakau, um den Hochaltar der dortigen Marienkirche zu schaffen. Er erhielt darauf weitere bedeutende Aufträge, v.a. für Arbeiten in Stein. 1496 kehrte er nach Nürnberg zurück, wurde im selben Jahr betrügerisch um sein Vermögen gebracht. 1503 erhielt er wegen einer Schuldscheinfälschung die entehrende Strafe der Durchstoßung der Wangen mit glühendem Eisen. Wohl wurde er durch Kaiser Maximilian I. rehabilitiert, doch blieb er ein gemiedener Bürger und starb als vereinsamter, verbitterter Mann. Seine künstler. Anfänge sind nicht bekannt, anzunehmen ist oberrhein. und nürnberg. Schulung unter Einfluß v.a. Nicolaus Gerhaerts. In seiner Kunst mischen sich leidenschaftlicher Naturalismus des Details mit barocker Durchwühlung der Gewänder und Umrisse; er war der größte Vertreter der 'barocken' Phase der Gotik; meisterhaft in der Technik des Bildschnitzens.
