Referring to one of the three major varieties (see race) of humans, Homo sapiens sapiens, including the indigenous peoples of Europe, the Near East, North Africa, India, and Australia. Caucasoids exhibit the widest range of variation in physical traits, including straight to curly hair; fair to dark skin; blue, hazel, and brown eyes; blond, red, brown, and black hair; medium to heavy beard and body hair; small to high-bridged noses; medium to thin lips. The term was coined by the German anthropologist J F Blumenbach (1752–1840), who erroneously theorized that they originated in the Caucasus region. See also Mongoloid, Negroid.
