Zulu

imenica
IPA: / zuːluː /

Množina: Zulus

Značenje:

1. A Bantu language of considerable literary importance in southeastern Africa.
2. A member of the tall Negroid people of southeastern Africa living in northern Natal.
Member of a group of southern African peoples mainly from Natal, South Africa. Their present homeland, KwaZulu, represents the nucl
eus of the once extensive and militaristic Zulu kingdom. Today many Zulus work in the industrial centers around Johannesburg and Durban. The Zulu language, closely related to Xhosa, belongs to the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo family. Many Zulus, as supporters of the political organization Inkatha, violently opposed the nonracial constitution adopted in South Africa 1993, threatening to boycott the 1994 elections unless their demands for greater autonomy were met. Just one week before the elections took place, Inkatha abandoned their demands, and on 19 April signed a pact outlining their participation in the elections.
