Fragrant heartwood of any of certain Asiatic and Australian trees of the genus Santalum, family Santalaceae, used for ornamental carving, in perfume, and burned as incense.
Close-grained fragrant yellowish heartwood of the true sandalwood; has insect-repelling properties and is used for carving and cabinetwork.
