Discrimination against middle-aged and elderly people; SYN. agism.
Discrimination against older people in employment, pensions, housing, and health care.
To combat it the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has 30 million members, and the Gray Panthers were formed. They have been responsible for legislation forbidding employers to discriminate; for example, it is illegal in the US to fail to employ people aged 40–69, to dismiss them, or to reduce their working conditions or wages.
Prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly.
