Lenz's law

In physics, a law stating that the direction of an electromagnetically induced current (generated by moving a magnet near a wire or a wire in a magnetic field) will oppose the motion producing it. It is named for the German physicist Heinrich Friedrich Lenz (1804–1865), who announced it in 1833.
