(1932-1982) Canadian pianist. He was launched to fame with his first recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, and built his reputation as one of the greatest interpreters of Bach. His eccentricities, especially his unusual choice of tempo, ultimately led to his giving up live performance in favor of making recordings.
