White or light-colored crested parrot of the Australian region; often kept as cage birds.
Any of several crested parrots, especially of the genus Cacatua. They usually have light-colored plumage with tinges of red, yellow, or orange on the face, and an erectile crest on the head. They are native to Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands.
There are about 17 species, one of the most familiar being the sulfur-crested cockatoo C. galerita of Australia and New Guinea, about 50 cm/20 in long, white with a yellow crest and dark beak.
