Loy, dt. Bildhauer, Kaufbeuren um 1484, +Eichstätt um 1554, Hauptmeister der dt. Frührenaissance in Oberdeutschland. Schüler von H. Beierlein in Augsburg, tätig ebd. und seit 1513 in Eichstätt, schuf neben Kleinskulpturen vor allem Grabplastiken und Kruzifixe. In seinem Stil geht er von Beierlein aus, wandte sich aber entschieden der Renaissance zu, beeinflußt von der Augsburger Renaissancekunst und v.a. auch von Dürer, nach dessen Holzschnitten er vielfach - wie auch andere Meister der Zeit - arbeitete. Hauptwerk: Denkmal des hl. Willibald, mit der lebensgroßen Sitzfigur des Heiligen (1514 vollendet, Eichstätt, Dom). H. hat außerordentlich viele Epitaphien in Reliefform geschaffen: das der Margarete von Eltz (1519, Boppard, Karmeliterkirche), des Truchsessen von Witzhausen (1524, Wien), des Herzogs Erich I. von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1527, Münden, St. Blasienkirche). Viele Epitaphien im Dom von Eichstätt. Ferner Wandelaltäre, Kruzifixe u.a.

Any of various marine fishes of the herring family (Clupeidae), but especially the important food fish Clupea harengus. A silvered greenish-blue, it swims close to the surface, and may be 25–40 cm/10–16 in long. Herring travel in schools several miles long and wide. They are found in large quantities off the E coast of North America, and the shores of NE Europe. Overfishing and pollution have reduced their numbers.
