(Partus)Ausstoßung des Kindes aus der Gebärmutter. Die G. erfolgt durch Wehen, Zusammenziehungen der Gebärmutter. Bereits 4 Wochen vor der G. treten kurz andauernde Vorwehen ein. Dadurch wird der Gebärmutterhals gedehnt und das Kind nach unten bewegt. Werden die Wehen kräftiger und regelmäßiger (alle 5-10 Minuten für 30-60 Sekunden), so beginnt die Eröffnungsperiode, die 6-15 Stunden dauert. Der Gebärmutterhals weitet sich, die Fruchtblase wölbt sich nach außen und platzt. Während der anschließenden Austreibungsphase, die bei Erstgebärenden mehrere Stunden, sonst mitunter weniger als 1 Stunde dauert, wird die Wehentätigkeit gesteigert und das Kind geboren. In der Nachgeburtsperiode wird das Neugeborene abgenabelt. Durch Nachwehen wird die Plazenta ausgestoßen und die Gebärmutter gesäubert.
