Any plant of the genus Verbascum, family Scrophulariaceae. The great mullein Verbascum thapsus has lance-shaped leaves 30 cm/12 in or more in length, covered in woolly down, and a large spike of yellow flowers. It is found in Europe and Asia and is naturalized in North America.
