US photographer, born in Hungary. He specialized in war photography. He covered the Spanish Civil War as a freelance and World War II for Life and Collier’s magazines. His pictures emphasize the human tragedy of war. He was a founder member of the Magnum photographic agency. He died while on an assignment in Vietnam.
