Allen
Adopted name of Allen Stewart Konigsberg (1935-)
US film writer, director, and actor. He is known for his cynical, witty, often self-deprecating parody and offbeat humor. His film Annie Hall 1977 won him three Academy Awards. From the late 1970s, Allen mixed his output of comedies with straight dramas, such as Interiors 1978 and Another Woman 1988, but recent works such as Manhattan Murder Mystery 1994 and Bullets over Broadway 1994 have emphasized humor.
His film career began with Whats New Pussycat? 1965, which he wrote and in which he acted. Other films include Take the Money and Run 1969, Bananas 1971, Play It Again, Sam 1972, Sleeper 1973, Love and Death 1975, Manhattan 1979, Stardust Memories 1982, Midsummer Nights Sex Comedy 1982, Zelig 1983, Broadway Danny Rose 1984, Purple Rose of Cairo 1985, Hannah and Her Sisters 1986, Radio Days 1987, Alice 1990, Husbands and Wives 1992. His play Dont Drink the Water appeared on Broadway 1966.
Allegations of child molestation and court battles followed his 1992 break with longtime companion Mia Farrow.
