(c. 1320-1395) Scottish poet. His epic 13,000-line poem, The Bruce 1375–78, chronicles the war of Scottish independence and includes a vivid account of Robert Bruce’s victory over the English at Bannockburn 1314. It is among the earliest known works of Scottish poetry.

Ian 1923- American (Chinese-born of American-Scottish parents) theologian and physicist.

US jurist and political leader. He served as Speaker of the House in the US House of Representatives 1821–23. A strong supporter of states' rights, he was appointed federal district judge by President Jackson 1830. He served on the US Supreme Court 1836–41, consistently ruling in favor of the prerogative of the states over federal authority.
Born in Barboursville, Virginia, Barbour studied law and briefly practiced in Kentucky before returning to Virginia and beginning a political career.
