(1837-1904) US politician. A Republican, he supported James Garfield in his presidential campaign 1880. He served in the US Senate 1896–1900 and, as chair of the Republican National Committee, engineered McKinley's victories in 1896 and 1900 becoming his closest adviser.
Born in New Lisbon, Ohio, US, Hanna attended Case Western Reserve College before joining his father in business.
He later became one of Cleveland’s civic leaders, founding the Union National Bank and buying the Cleveland Herald.
