(1653-1713) Italian composer and violinist. He was one of the first virtuoso exponents of the Baroque violin and his music, marked by graceful melody, includes a set of concerti grossi and five sets of chamber sonatas.
Born near Milan, he studied in Bologna and in about 1685 settled in Rome, under the patronage of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, where he published his first violin sonatas.

Pseudonym of Mary Mackay (1855-1924) English romantic novelist. Trained for a musical career, she turned instead to writing (she was said to be Queen Victoria’s favorite novelist) and published The Romance of Two Worlds 1886. Her works were later ridiculed for their pretentious style.
