1. technology education

Training for the practical application of science in industry and commerce. Britain's Industrial Revolution preceded that of the rest of Europe by half a century and its prosperity stimulated other countries to encourage technological education.
The US established a number of technology institutes on European lines, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1861 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 1824. Intensive training of technologists, exceeding the pace of both W Europe and the US, has been emphasized by the states of the former Soviet Union and China.
