Or scarlatina; Acute infectious disease, especially of children, caused by the bacteria in the Streptococcus pyogenes group. It is marked by fever, vomiting, sore throat and a bright red rash spreading from the upper to the lower part of the body. The rash is followed by the skin peeling in flakes. It is treated with antibiotics.
