Any method for re-creating a cryptographic key if it is lost, stolen, or damaged.
General term referring to the ability to retrieve a cryptographic key in order to decode encrypted information. Key recovery can be used to regain a lost key or, as has been publicized in recent years, can be used as a means of enabling government agencies to decode encrypted information. One method of providing for key recovery is known as key escrow. See also encryption, key escrow, private key.
