ETYM Cf. French humidité.
Wetness in the atmosphere; SYN. humidness.
The presence of water vapor in air or other gases.
Strictly speaking, also refers to all kinds of absolute indications of humidity. For very low humidities, other more specific terms tend to be used .
The quantity of water vapor in a given volume of the atmosphere (absolute humidity), or the ratio of the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere to the saturation value at the same temperature (relative humidity). At dew point the relative humidity is 100% and the air is said to be saturated. Condensation (the conversion of vapor to liquid) may then occur. Relative humidity is measured by various types of hygrometer.
