Free-swimming stalkless crinoid with ten feathery arms; found on muddy sea bottoms; SYN. comatulid.
Any of an unattached, free-swimming group of sea-lilies, order Comatulida. The arms are branched into numerous projections (hence “feather” star), and grow from a small cup-shaped body. Below the body are appendages that can hold onto a surface, but the feather star is not permanently attached.
