Pungent fresh herb, the Eurasian plant Coriandrum sativum, a member of the parsley family Umbelliferae, also a spice: the dried ripe fruit. The spice is used commercially as a flavoring in meat products, bakery goods, tobacco, gin, liqueurs, chili, and curry powder. Both are much used in cooking in the Middle East, India, Mexico, and China.
