Pungent fresh herb, the Eurasian plant Coriandrum sativum, a member of the parsley family Umbelliferae, also a spice: the dried ripe fruit. The spice is used commercially as a flavoring in meat products, bakery goods, tobacco, gin, liqueurs, chili, and curry powder. Both are much used in cooking in the Middle East, India, Mexico, and China.
Jednogodišnja biljka. Seje se u proleće, brzo niče ali sporo raste. Seme sazreva u pozno leto. Traži rastresito zemljište i sunčano mesto. Korijander je nađen u grobovima faraona i spominje se u Bibliji. Po izgledu je sličan peršunu ali ima mnogo jači ukus. Plodovi korijandera dodaju se kobasicama, jagnjetini, jelima od graška, pečuraka, kupusa, govedini, sosovima i marinadama. Mesto natrljano mlevenim korijanderom i vinskim sirćetom može duže da ostane sveže pri sobnoj temperaturi.
