Process whereby management, representing an employer, and a labor union, representing employees, agree to negotiate jointly terms and conditions of employment. Agreements can be company-based or industry-wide.

A farm operated collectively.
Farm in which a group of farmers pool their land, domestic animals, and agricultural implements, retaining as private property enough only for the members' own requirements. The profits of the farm are divided among its members. In cooperative farming, farmers retain private ownership of the land.
Collective farming was first developed in the USSR in 1917, where it became general after 1930. Stalin's collectivization drive 1929–33 wrecked a flourishing agricultural system and alienated the Soviet peasants from the land: 15 million people were left homeless, 1 million of whom were sent to labor camps and some 12 million deported to Siberia. In subsequent years, millions of those peasants forced into collectives died. Collective farming is practiced in other countries; it was adopted from 1953 in China, and Israel has a large number of collective farms (see kibbutz).

Singular word used to refer to a group (“family”, “team”, “committee”, “audience”). Collective nouns usually take singular verbs or pronouns, but this depends on the context. There are special collective nouns for groups of certain animals; “a pride of lions”, for example.

Doctrine found in governments modeled on the British system of cabinet government. It is based on convention, or usage, rather than law, and requires that once a decision has been taken by the cabinet, all members of the government are bound by it and must support it or resign their posts.

A system for international peace.
System for achieving international stability by an agreement among all states to unite against any aggressor. Such a commitment was embodied in the post–World War I League of Nations and also in the United Nations (UN), although the League was not able to live up to the ideals of its founders, nor has the UN been able to do so.
