(Grammar) A syntactical structure in which the subject acts upon the object; as opposed to passive voice.
The voice used to indicate that the subject of the verb is performing the action or causing the happening denoted by the verb; SYN. active.
In grammar, the voice of a verb when the agent performing the action is the subject of a sentence (“Alan caught the dog”). Verbs can be either active or passive in voice.
