(1870-1919) Polish-born German communist. She helped found the Polish Social Democratic Party in the 1890s (which later became the Polish Communist Party). She was a leader of the left wing of the German Social Democratic Party from 1898 and collaborator with Karl Liebknecht in founding the communist Spartacus League 1918 (see Spartacist). She was murdered with him by army officers during the Jan 1919 Berlin workers' revolt.
