(1954-) English dramatist, filmmaker, and novelist. His work concentrates on the lives of Asians living in Britain. His early plays Outskirts 1981 and Birds of Passage 1983 were followed by the screenplays for the films My Beautiful Laundrette 1984 and Sammy and Rosie Get Laid 1987, both directed by Stephen Frears. He wrote and directed the film London Kills Me 1991.
