(1908-) Canadian portrait photographer, born in Armenia. He is known for his formal and dramatically lit studies of the famous, in which he attempts to capture their “inward power”. His most notable picture is the defiant portrait of Winston Churchill which appeared on the cover of Life magazine 1941.
