(1927-1981) US pioneer of rock and roll. He was originally a western-swing musician. His songs ‘Rock Around the Clock’ 1954 (recorded with his group the Comets and featured in the 1955 film Blackboard Jungle) and ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’ 1955 were big hits of the early rock-and-roll era.
