US high explosive named for Major Dunn, its developer; also called “Explosive D”. Made of ammonium picrate powder, it was relatively insensitive, and so was widely used in armor-piercing shells as it withstood the shock of impact against armor without detonating, allowing the shell to pierce the armor before the fuse initiated the explosive.
