US writer. He is noted for novels in which he weaves history and fiction together. His first novel, The Book of Daniel 1971, about the Rosenbergs’ trial and execution, won him instant fame. His other works include Ragtime 1975, Loon Lake 1980, Lives of the Poet 1984, World’s Fair 1985, Billy Bathgate 1989, and The Waterworks 1994.
