1. Carnegie Medal


(full name Library Association Carnegie Medal) Annual award for an outstanding book for children written in English and published in the UK. The medal was first awarded 1937 to Arthur Ransome’s Pigeon Post (in the Swallows and Amazons series). It is named for US industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
