The second letter of the English alphabet. It corresponds to the Greek beta (B, b) and the Semitic beth, and, as written in the current West European alphabet, is derived from Classical Roman block letters. The sound is a voiced bilabial stop, although in some English words (debt, doubt) b is silent.
