Množina: Piraeuses
Port of both ancient and modern Athens and main port of Greece, on the Gulf of Aegina; Constructed as the port of Athens about 493 BC, it was linked with that city by the Long Walls, a fortification protecting the approaches to Athens comprising three walls built 496–456 BC. After the destruction of Athens by Sulla 86 BC, Piraeus declined. Piraeus is now an industrial suburb of Athens.
