(1893-1977) US actor. He went straight from school into the theater, and in 1922 married the actress Lynn Fontanne with whom he subsequently co-starred in more than 30 plays. They formed a sophisticated comedy duo, and the New York Lunt–Fontanne Theatre was named after them. Their shows included Design for Living by Noël Coward 1933, There Shall Be No Night 1940–41, and The Visit 1960.
