(1895-1983) US athlete and sports promoter. He was founder of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League and was an active player until 1929. He acted as coach until retirement 1967, introducing the T-formation and giving special emphasis to the passing offense.
Born in Chicago, and educated at the University of Illinois, Halas was an exceptional athlete and in 1919 briefly played professional baseball for the New York Yankees. From 1921 he devoted himself to professional football. He became a charter member of the Football Hall of Fame 1963.
