(Peter) (1932-) German-born English composer. He was professor of music at Cambridge from 1976. A lyrical but often hard-edged serialist, he nevertheless usually remained within the forms of the symphony and traditional chamber works, and more recently turned to tonal and even Neo-Baroque models. Works include the opera Arden muss sterben/Arden Must Die 1966, the music theater piece Naboth’s Vineyard 1968, and Metamorphosis/Dance 1974.
