(1904-1942) Italian architect. He was largely responsible for introducing the Modern Movement to Italy. As a leading member of Gruppo 7, he advocated a return to the principles of Rationalism, inciting widespread opposition from the orthodox architectural establishment. Notable among his designs are the Novecomum block of flats, Como, 1927, and his masterpiece, the Casa del Fascio, Como, 1932–36, a crystalline white cube, devoid of ornament but clearly exhibiting its structure.
