(1909-) US novelist and short-story writer. Her works reflect life in the American South and are notable for their creation of character and accurate rendition of local dialect. Her novels include Delta Wedding 1946, Losing Battles 1970, and The Optimist’s Daughter 1972.
The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty appeared in 1980. The autobiographical work One Writer’s Beginnings 1984 is a warm recounting of the people, places, and incidents that influenced Welty’s work.
