(1854-1932) US bandmaster and composer of marches. He wrote ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever!’ 1897.
He became known as a brilliant bandmaster during his tenure as leader of the Marine Band 1880–92. He went on to form the Sousa Band 1892 and toured internationally with this group until his death.
