Tall woody perennial grasses with hollow slender stems especially of the genera Arundo and Phragmites.
Any of various perennial tall, slender grasses of wet or marshy environments; in particular, species of the genera Phragmites and Arundo; also the stalk of any of these plants. The common reed p. australis attains a height of 3 m/10 ft, having stiff, erect leaves and straight stems bearing a plume of purplish flowers.
