Benannt nach dem frz. Forcher J. Nicot (1530, +1600), in kleinen Mengen anregend, hoch dosiert aber lähmend wirkend, tödl. Menge bereits in wenigen Zigaretten enthalten. Der größte Teil des N. verbrennt beim Rauchen, nur 30 % werden vom Rauch aufgenommen und davon wird nur ein Bruchteil von der Lunge resorbiert.
