Wilkie (1824-1889) English author of mystery and suspense novels. He wrote The Woman in White 1860 (with its fat villain Count Fosco), often called the first English detective novel, and The Moonstone 1868 (with Sergeant Cuff, one of the first detectives in English literature).

English poet. His Persian Eclogues 1742 were followed in 1746 by his series Odes, including the poem ‘To Evening’.
