(Saul) (1935-) Argentine politician, president from 1989; leader of the Peronist (Justicialist Party) movement. As president, he introduced sweeping privatization and public spending cuts, released hundreds of political prisoners jailed under the Alfonsín regime, and sent two warships to the Gulf to assist the US against Iraq in the 1992 Gulf War (the only Latin American country to offer support to the US).
