Any of numerous predominantly Old World birds noted for their singing.
Songbird of the family Alaudidae, found mainly in the Old World, but also in North America. Larks are brownish-tan in color and usually about 18 cm/7 in long; they nest on the ground in the open. The skylark Alauda arvensis sings as it rises almost vertically in the air. It breeds in Britain; it is light-brown, and 18 cm/7 in long.
The skylark has been introduced to Vancouver Island. The North American horned lark Eremophila alpestris has black “horns” and only a weak, twittering song. + prikaži više
