(1856-1937) US political leader and diplomat. Elected to the US Senate 1916, he was appointed US ambassador to Great Britain by President Harding 1922 and secretary of state 1925. He formulated the Kellogg–Briand Pact 1927, the international antiwar resolution, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 1929.
Born in Potsdam, New York, Kellogg studied law in Minnesota and was admitted to the bar 1877. He served as a prosecutor of federal antitrust cases before being elected to the US Senate.
