newsgroup

imenicaračunari
Značenje:

A forum on the Internet for threaded discussions on a specified range of subjects. A newsgroup consists of articles and follow-up posts. An article with all of its follow-up posts—which are (supposed to be) related to the specific subject named in the original article’s subject line—constitutes a thread. Each newsgroup has a name that consists of a series of words, separated by periods, indicating the newsgroup’s subject in terms of increasingly narrow categories, such as rec.crafts.textiles.needlework. Some newsgroups can be read and posted to only on one site; others, such as those in the seven Usenet hierarchies or those in ClariNet, circulate throughout the Internet. See also article, bit. newsgroups, ClariNet, follow-up, Great Renaming, local newsgroups, mail reflector, threaded discussion, traditional newsgroup hierarchy, Usenet. Compare mailing list.
Discussion group on the Internet's USENET. Newsgroups are organized in several broad categories, for example biz (business), news, rec (recreational subjects) and sci (science). Within these categories there is a hierarchy of subdivisions, so biz.comp contains computing newsgroups, of which biz.comp.software is the newsgroup concerned with software.
Newsgroups exist for almost any subject one might care to think of, whether serious or frivolous. Because USENET is completely uncensored, some of the newsgroups are inevitably tasteless and offensive to many users.
