In SE Asian history, term for the policy adopted in Indonesia 1963–65 under president Sukarno of breaking up the new Federation of Malaysia by tactics of military and political destabilization. Australian prime minister Menzies announced military support for Malaysia, with resulting tension in Australia–Indonesia relations.
