Any of several marine fishes of the order Zeiformes. The American John Dory Zenopsis ocellata, to 60 cm/2 ft long, is deep-bodied with long spines on the dorsal and ventral fins. It lives in depths of 90 m/300 ft to 365 m/1,200 ft.
