US film actor, one of Hollywood’s biggest box-office attractions of the late 1980s and 1990s. His clean-cut good looks earned him a succession of teen roles in the early 1980s but he proved his dramatic metal against Paul Newman in The Color of Money 1986. He went on to star in such films as Top Gun 1986, Rain Man 1988, Born on the Fourth of July 1989, and Days of Thunder 1990. His other films include Far and Away 1992 with his wife Nicole Kidman, Cocktail 1988, A Few Good Men 1993, and Interview with the Vampire 1994.
